Q 38 Mathematics Area Problems Rolling Wheels Speed

Wheels of diameters 7 cm and 14 cm start rolling simultaneously from X and Y, which are 1980 cm apart, towards each other in opposite directions. Both of them make the same number of revolutions per second. If both of them meet after 10 seconds, the speed of the smaller wheel is:

A

22 cm/sec

B

44 cm/sec

C

66 cm/sec

D

132 cm/sec

View answer & explanation Ans: 66 cm/sec

Correct Answer: 66 cm/sec

The wheels approach at 7πn + 14πn = 21πn cm/sec, and 21πn x 10 = 1980 gives πn = 66/7, so the smaller wheel's speed is 7πn = 66 cm/sec.

Q 42 Mathematics Area Problems Circular Path Time

A can go round a circular path 8 times in 40 minutes. If the diameter of the circle is increased to 10 times the original diameter, then the time required by A to go round the new path once, traveling at the same speed as before, is:

A

20 min

B

25 min

C

50 min

D

100 min

View answer & explanation Ans: 50 min

Paper practice FAQs

How many questions are in the Arithmetic: Area Problems MCQ bank? +

49 questions, published of 50 printed in the book. One item was dropped, never inferred, because its stem gives no height for the room, so the four-walls area cannot be found.

What does the Arithmetic: Area Problems bank cover? +

Rectangle and square areas, perimeters and diagonals, areas that stay constant or change with the sides, paving and carpeting costs, fencing poles and pavement, cross roads and inner pathways, wall papering and room heights, triangle, parallelogram and trapezium areas, grazing circles, rolling wheels and circular plates cut from a square sheet.

Are the answers verified? +

Yes. Every answer was re-solved from scratch — side and diagonal relations, perimeter and area identities, trapezium and circle formulas, and the HCF tile method — and checked against the book's printed Answer Key on p. 770. One key error was corrected to the standard answer, one unanswerable item was dropped, and the other print defects are flagged in the working notes.

Which other exams does this bank help with? +

Area and mensuration problems appear in the arithmetic and general-ability sections of FPSC, PPSC, NTS, PTS and CSS MPT one-paper exams, so the same methods apply across all of them.
